For many, their relationship with food and exercise has become entwined with their feelings. This can cause significant distress, and if it is taken to extremes an eating disorder can develop. Disordered eating is an effort to fix our inner lives through controlling our food and weight. It is an effort that gets out of hand and ultimately doesn't work. It may temporarily distract you, but it typically leaves you feeling worse as it results in shame, secrecy, and self-hatred.
